Library Science, also known as Library and Information Science (LIS), is an interdisciplinary field of study that focuses on the management, organization, and dissemination of information resources. It encompasses the principles, practices, and technologies used in collecting, organizing, preserving, and providing access to information in various formats, including books, journals, digital media, and databases.

1. Cataloging and Classification: Organizing information and resources so they can be easily located and accessed.
2. Information Retrieval: Developing systems and techniques for finding and retrieving information efficiently.
3. Preservation and Archiving: Protecting and maintaining physical and digital materials for future use.
4. Library Management: Overseeing the operations of libraries, including budgeting, staffing, and policy development.
5. User Services: Assisting individuals in accessing and using library resources effectively.
6. Digital Libraries: Creating and managing digital repositories of information and facilitating online access.
7. Information Ethics: Addressing issues such as copyright, intellectual property, and the ethical use of information.

Professionals in library science, known as librarians, often work in public libraries, academic institutions, research centers, and specialized libraries. With the rapid advancement of technology, the field has expanded to include digital information management, making it a crucial discipline in today’s information-driven world.
